I can not believe it has been a month since I have posted.....the shawl is finished being knit! it has been washed and blocked and dried and here it is!!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIkerKFW1zAYJsOo7LlnXv62_TQ3mSCzuhfLfucj7XJuoKZhh4Wh6i0dVREsFvPRwag5n8XsLp6NkdU0mrwIYmtzvIkJFFLVVcUDaODJlCPy9xNnVXWSs7EosXMAWgNSwxEm4U1OCLoeo/s1600/IMG_0712.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIkerKFW1zAYJsOo7LlnXv62_TQ3mSCzuhfLfucj7XJuoKZhh4Wh6i0dVREsFvPRwag5n8XsLp6NkdU0mrwIYmtzvIkJFFLVVcUDaODJlCPy9xNnVXWSs7EosXMAWgNSwxEm4U1OCLoeo/s400/IMG_0712.JPG" width="400" height="300" /></a></div>
I am amazed after the spinning and knitting....how can the colors be so even across the shawl!! It must be magic!! the pattern is so easy to knit and I am obsessed totally...so found a couple of balls of Noro yarn that daughter gave me last Christmas which was tucked away trying to decide what to be....a shawl...right..so away I went again knitting like a maniac....could not put it down....always had to see how the next color came out. Then there was the panic of...o.k. I had started the first ball from the outside of the ball and I seem to remember something about started the second ball so the colors would flow.....was it the inside of the ball or continue from the outside....got myself all worked up....phoned daughter...she could not remember....(she takes after her father) she said she gave me a Noro magazine the same time she gave me the yarn....so off to search for the magazine.....where.....where...went through everything and could not find it...so disappointed with myself...so went to put away all the stuff I had unearthed while in my frantic search....and here it was...used as a bookmark in another magazine and the big disappointment....there was no mention in the whole magazine on this particular yarn but found the website for Noro and typed in the yarn I was using......the yarn has been discontinued...so decided I would rely on common sense and I decided to just go with starting the second ball from the outside too. And look at what she looks like...all knit up...washed and blocked and dried!! She is a beauty!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3oyxsIby5FYgYKyaKhYpjto_ZHLDcnVBxY1aBkzLnLr57DEThATqZa5-ABmOGwNR4PBpKFmV-5nwtCo-Eua1ah_-t8DiwCw_gVeSikqsauTJnHkj9EUpR1aj4kt7PADMBsRxWYALsAFk/s1600/IMG_0724.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3oyxsIby5FYgYKyaKhYpjto_ZHLDcnVBxY1aBkzLnLr57DEThATqZa5-ABmOGwNR4PBpKFmV-5nwtCo-Eua1ah_-t8DiwCw_gVeSikqsauTJnHkj9EUpR1aj4kt7PADMBsRxWYALsAFk/s400/IMG_0724.JPG" width="400" height="300" /></a></div>
So now am trying not to have a panic attack because going through my large stash of yarn and roving am finding nothing that can compete with these two shawls...I do have some naked roving...so I guess the dye pots have to come out....or should I go over and see what daughter has in her stash.....meanwhile the weeds are growing in my garden...never enough time... Crazy Lady with purple fingershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13638003936298753440noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818484467525397095.post-75137673114764337652017-03-25T20:32:00.000-07:002017-03-25T20:33:14.223-07:00Back to Spinning I have not been spinning that much the last year or so because of my back and hips but found the container with my petting fibre's in it.....petting fibres are really nice fibre that you look at and admire but are afraid to spin as you are afraid they will not look as nice as they do now if they are spun up. I had forgot I had two braided rovings that daughter M.J. had picked up for me a few years ago, and I thought o.k. I am going to get these spun up, so I unbraided one of the braids and thought....if I spin it as it is there are going to be long large areas of one color and as I was going to spin one braid of roving and then spin the other braid which were matching colors....did I really want to knit something with large blocks of color, the braids were only 50grms each so would only end up with a 100grm ball of yarn when plyed....what to do....then I had read some info about spinning and plying a gradient yarn....so off I went to the computer to see what information I could find to give me some ideas. I came across a video where a lady had as an experiment had spun up two rovings dyed the same and plyed them and knit some mittens and it showed large patches of color on the small items. Then with two more rovings dyed the same colors she had spun one of the rovings as it was with the large patches of separate colors, then she took the other dyed roving and split it in four pieces and spun them each one after the other giving her smaller areas of color and she had some mittens knit from that skein and the colors flowed together nicely. So I took one of the rovings and split it in four pieces and spun them up. Here is the picture of the four pieces spun and the other roving I was going to spin as it was.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixlVfryvkO15f3TLVSyD6084rQh6bQOyeKFWZgf4OQbgHEd2w4sxcyBhhM19wu8e4cVLsXQrRVCE7W3hN36HsiUMmuc4w3SMgWffNvyNGa0gM39SnRuXRIo2XjMn_U0BDDQbf5BP2mTzQ/s1600/IMG_0690.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixlVfryvkO15f3TLVSyD6084rQh6bQOyeKFWZgf4OQbgHEd2w4sxcyBhhM19wu8e4cVLsXQrRVCE7W3hN36HsiUMmuc4w3SMgWffNvyNGa0gM39SnRuXRIo2XjMn_U0BDDQbf5BP2mTzQ/s400/IMG_0690.JPG" width="300" height="400" /></a></div>
The fibre mix in the roving was a wool/silk mix and it did not say what kind of wool or the amount of silk was in it and I have an idea it might have been a superwash wool and it might have had more silk in it than I thought. Where the roving was the darkest blue it was felted a bit and in that dark blue area the silk was in lumps,so it was a bit of a fight to spin pulling the lumps out as I spun. So when it came to spinning the other roving I decided I would draft out the roving and pull out the lumpy/felted bits before I started spinning it and here it is.....it looks so delicious I hated to spin it!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCf_QEKQPUoEKszqFGgyIgiDd24VhWUj2eLcFpIhIQHrpiSaP8CrSU3NcH_Lr5ExXTkJ7Bkibwcb8N1IUDO6z_L8byyiOYETKcKc4ZlUynQf3_x0N4NUeRHog-PJ-1FILfg7ErrlJzSLQ/s1600/IMG_0691.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCf_QEKQPUoEKszqFGgyIgiDd24VhWUj2eLcFpIhIQHrpiSaP8CrSU3NcH_Lr5ExXTkJ7Bkibwcb8N1IUDO6z_L8byyiOYETKcKc4ZlUynQf3_x0N4NUeRHog-PJ-1FILfg7ErrlJzSLQ/s400/IMG_0691.JPG" width="400" height="300" /></a></div>
But it had to be spun...well it started with the dark blue and I was spinning away...and....and....hit a piece of pure silk and it got away from me and separated from the roving and lost it's twist....now anyone that hasn't spun silk or 100 percent mohair and had this happens....I can not describe the horror....do not know how long it took me to manage to get enough twist into spun piece so I could get it to grab onto the roving but eventually got the spin going again and was super carefull from then on, there were such long stretches of the colors I was wishing I had maybe split the second roving into two pieces but it was too late so kept spinning and got it all spun and here are the two bobbins....
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgP-reN_LhbUdmWIeAcdqrY2Ti4iE80hNAc8QKJkR_ia5sR_kL-uEOuFwQlfgsvBDNCgiS4vKXr0mlqQzUSA-Be-71PQ83dKMnegWR8tN3DYUen9FID2swLbXu1UM3lQM8ypMF7Jk_knL8/s1600/IMG_0694.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgP-reN_LhbUdmWIeAcdqrY2Ti4iE80hNAc8QKJkR_ia5sR_kL-uEOuFwQlfgsvBDNCgiS4vKXr0mlqQzUSA-Be-71PQ83dKMnegWR8tN3DYUen9FID2swLbXu1UM3lQM8ypMF7Jk_knL8/s400/IMG_0694.JPG" width="300" height="400" /></a></div>
The next day I plyed the bobbins together which was also a chore as the singles were uncontrollable until I remembered I had a tension thing on my lazy kate...and I thought to myself...do you really know what you are doing! But then I have been mainly spinning alpaca and it does not usually get out of control so have not used the tension for ages. o.K. it is under control and finished plying the yarn all the time thinking it is not going to look as good as it did sitting in roving form......so off I went to bed, it was after midnight and I would take it off the bobbin the next day.
The next morning I decided I would knit a few rows on the scarf I was going to finish before I started on something new which I got tired of and started something new....the spinning of the roving.....I wanted to finish up all the yarn I was knitting the scarf with and I swear the ball of yarn keeps growing when I turn my back as it is never ending. So sat down to knit on the scarf for a few rows before I went and took the spun yarn off the bobbin and Hubby came in and had to chat about something and I messed the row up I was knitting....lost a stitch somewhere, and in the pattern there are so many yarn overs and the yarn is a bit sticky and the only way to get back on track is to slowly rip back rows one stitch at a time until you are back on track with the pattern....so no progress on the scarf, just managed to get it back on track. I got my knitty knotty and started winding the yarn off the bobbin and as I was doing that the bobbin rolled back and the yarn wound around the shaft that holds the bobbin where all the oil collects where you oil the shaft!! And I only have two hands!! After a bit I finally got the yarn back on track...blotted the oil off the section of yarn that was around the shaft and went on and finished winding all the yarn on the knitty knotty and went to tie it off....and when I was juggling everything I ended up winding the yarn the wrong way right in the middle....now what am I going to do....got my swift out and up and slowly...slowly rewound the yarn off the knitty knotty. Now I finally have a skein of yarn.....I just had to put it in time out for a while....last night before I went to bed I washed the skein and hung it to dry and here she is....
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMQXfqENmuphymtK76DGy9O7x-EYydKf5Fw-zVeEzMnK0VuOX-UokcYSpc60bpYK4Ldh4BIxKqEqKPnZUTvMfT676TsCaaYxVsLnKSqRqSSbNCkVN4i1N_XT0Op_3c6Yy2jvVbXAmkLQ8/s1600/IMG_0697.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMQXfqENmuphymtK76DGy9O7x-EYydKf5Fw-zVeEzMnK0VuOX-UokcYSpc60bpYK4Ldh4BIxKqEqKPnZUTvMfT676TsCaaYxVsLnKSqRqSSbNCkVN4i1N_XT0Op_3c6Yy2jvVbXAmkLQ8/s400/IMG_0697.JPG" width="400" height="300" /></a></div>
Now the proof of success is going to be in the knitting....what should I knit....have to think about it and look at a few patterns...have not figured out the yardage but weighted it and it is 105grms. That was my week....but the good thing is...the snow is almost gone...the perennials are starting to come up so I better get out and clean up all the old foliage and the tomato and pepper seeds I have under the lights are up and some are getting their second leaves so will be ready to pot up pretty soon! I think spring is finally here!!!! Crazy Lady with purple fingershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13638003936298753440noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818484467525397095.post-90467780256321608032017-03-10T22:07:00.000-08:002017-03-10T22:07:36.344-08:00Where is the Sun!! I Run on Solar Power!!I have been knitting up some of my unfinished articles....and a lot of them are slipper socks...why so many unfinished slipper socks?? Well when I need some knitting to take with me as I run out the door or something to knit while watching T.V I just grab some yarn and needles to take with me....then a knitting order comes in and I have to tuck it away etc. etc. So I decided I would not start another thing until I found all the unfinished slipper socks and finish a scarf I started a few years ago. So far have finished the slippers I had on the go.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7KyE9UojCmwXkjpaqggsJbbMiBlZIAdNEXVy1dAWPdJWn-8qGQnl60RzfJEIU_sbNpmJvhy5SpqofhJy2rHHzk2FRr-VxkN1JEkCzLTvVVq-0rw1NsMCy-RwH0xDNbxaKywbIREG2hYU/s1600/IMG_0683.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7KyE9UojCmwXkjpaqggsJbbMiBlZIAdNEXVy1dAWPdJWn-8qGQnl60RzfJEIU_sbNpmJvhy5SpqofhJy2rHHzk2FRr-VxkN1JEkCzLTvVVq-0rw1NsMCy-RwH0xDNbxaKywbIREG2hYU/s400/IMG_0683.JPG" width="300" height="400" /></a></div>
Now have been knitting on the scarf, it is not fast even though it is a one row scarf so only have to remember one row but the yarn is a fine sock yarn so is taking a bit to knit but just have a small ball of yarn left to go, Love the way the scarf is working out, my favorite colors!! I think I had this picture in a post this summer but will post it again as the colors showed up so great in the sunlight...these days it is hard to get a good picture in the house!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBj4Ecr1fMxjwgkpZwa0cKbm5JC7PIlBn5kjj5YAAUU1JyiBgHSEj4km2f39hyphenhyphenUA_tCtd5XwdsVeDOZPGzMh16LOW6bsxfW2SNfn4TUpOZwzjCztA8Uixv-N8lRnccSeI6vTTqTi3jlD0/s1600/IMG_0528.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBj4Ecr1fMxjwgkpZwa0cKbm5JC7PIlBn5kjj5YAAUU1JyiBgHSEj4km2f39hyphenhyphenUA_tCtd5XwdsVeDOZPGzMh16LOW6bsxfW2SNfn4TUpOZwzjCztA8Uixv-N8lRnccSeI6vTTqTi3jlD0/s400/IMG_0528.JPG" width="300" height="400" /></a></div>
Oh look at the green grass!! And my Delphiniums!! Hopefully we will see it again pretty soon! Right now it is so cold and we just got a new snowfall last night. Is supposed to warm up a bit in a couple of days, hope it does and that is the last of the snow and cold weather! (Am probably dreaming) But the first day of spring in coming up pretty soon.....Crazy Lady with purple fingershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13638003936298753440noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818484467525397095.post-47192805331758435692017-02-21T12:21:00.001-08:002017-02-21T12:21:50.290-08:00Winter is back!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbSSxh-wRMOs4bCC-TIoNJu34sxPwsacipTQEeud4W9OjbdwO030oi0u8cQvavffQI9mjuAZR6oYwJ8sT4xXKaNfPLBH6he7DFK-aAVjY4fNOHnOg00g4iao0as_BjUNhDYFHlz629C2Y/s1600/IMG_0679.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbSSxh-wRMOs4bCC-TIoNJu34sxPwsacipTQEeud4W9OjbdwO030oi0u8cQvavffQI9mjuAZR6oYwJ8sT4xXKaNfPLBH6he7DFK-aAVjY4fNOHnOg00g4iao0as_BjUNhDYFHlz629C2Y/s400/IMG_0679.JPG" width="300" height="400" /></a></div>
After having nice weather and the snow and finally the ice disappearing we had snow last night so everything is white again, I see the evidence on the deck of our Mango cat playing at making snow balls, hubby said there were cat tracks all over the yard and barnyard, he must have been having a great time out there. Never seen a cat enjoy fresh fluffy snow like he does!!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk9Y5QFPHhvwgHP3lxuszCGX07s_IlvZnAjhWJtG5vbF4AqV0oE24kMtLRztt3KduNmrU0NueQVdU8t52aG9yJuhI7paD9FzqCB5M_WVGZzuKdSFwEE8bq59uNooGMbmipaccbvEIOL6Q/s1600/IMG_0672.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk9Y5QFPHhvwgHP3lxuszCGX07s_IlvZnAjhWJtG5vbF4AqV0oE24kMtLRztt3KduNmrU0NueQVdU8t52aG9yJuhI7paD9FzqCB5M_WVGZzuKdSFwEE8bq59uNooGMbmipaccbvEIOL6Q/s400/IMG_0672.JPG" width="300" height="400" /></a></div>
After I finished knitting the cat socks I was left with a bit of yarn left over and I had a ball of black sock yarn with bits of gold in it so I made myself a pair of short socks, I knit the leg with the black and then I had weighted the cat yarn and knit the foot until I had knit up half the yarn then finished the sock with the black, after knitting the other sock to match I only had a tiny little ball of the sock yarn left, I have a pattern somewhere that I have made tiny cats, maybe I have enough cat yarn left to make one......where would that pattern be....?
Then a elderly gentleman near where my sister lives had lost his house to a fire right around Christmas, she said he was upset as he had lost his 'real' wool socks so I knit him up a pair of "real" wool socks, just finished them up the other day and got them in the mail today, if he looks carefully he can probably still find bits of straw in them, if that isn't proof of 'real' wool I do not know what is!! Now I better get at another unfinished item and free up some of my knitting needles, I have a lot of needles and when I can not find the sizes I need and have to rob from on going projects...leaving notes on the item of what needles I was using....that is a sign I should get some things finished up. When you find you have three pair of slipper socks.....on needles....you should give yourself a good talking to!! Am off to knit....on a unfinished item.......
Real Wool Socks.....Washed and drying!!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGlkxvlxTIFL8-Tp_loHff91GSmBz2kQ43sgksMvNbOmRlG_uJtT7hxRheh-dgma1lYlNCg3oqpHYf6Peruzw85FKiIG3h1WeJMf8axa4O0PHfJ7J8xwdraa9FUp76pVuLzgKfjw0lXgw/s1600/IMG_0676.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGlkxvlxTIFL8-Tp_loHff91GSmBz2kQ43sgksMvNbOmRlG_uJtT7hxRheh-dgma1lYlNCg3oqpHYf6Peruzw85FKiIG3h1WeJMf8axa4O0PHfJ7J8xwdraa9FUp76pVuLzgKfjw0lXgw/s400/IMG_0676.JPG" width="400" height="300" /></a></div>Crazy Lady with purple fingershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13638003936298753440noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818484467525397095.post-7999007518406921282017-02-02T10:41:00.000-08:002017-02-02T10:41:43.135-08:00Calico Socks Finished!!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdCBSszrHVKIMImHikkwQd4gtRXbf2fLi-wND-uM86qw5gsM-82pNAM9kCf_NEkVcbBAdjNvjOlkT6uIMpXUmm8VPphHLZOKNFh6x_84R9b8mWF856MvJIVQcMyBmpOUQwjlENNshMu6M/s1600/IMG_0667.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdCBSszrHVKIMImHikkwQd4gtRXbf2fLi-wND-uM86qw5gsM-82pNAM9kCf_NEkVcbBAdjNvjOlkT6uIMpXUmm8VPphHLZOKNFh6x_84R9b8mWF856MvJIVQcMyBmpOUQwjlENNshMu6M/s400/IMG_0667.JPG" width="300" height="400" /></a></div>
Finally here we are all finished, the first sock I finished no problem but the second sock I was almost cross eyed trying to decrease for the toe, with the color variation in the yarn could not see whether I had decreased or not on the rows and kept getting mixed up so had to rip it back and I took a piece of paper and wrote knit on one side and decrease on the other side so I could flip over when I finished a row and know what row was next, it worked and it was finished in no time.
Now I have quite a bit of the yarn left over and I have a ball of black yarn the same fibre content as the cat yarn, it is a bit thinner so have doubled it....and this is the plan....I will knit the leg with the black yarn, then I have weighed the cat yarn and will knit the heel and foot until half of the left over yarn is used...am hoping that it will be enough so only have the toe left and will knit the toe in black, if not will just finish the foot and toe in the black.....that is the plan....Have started knitting the leg....only doing a small cuff....should have rewound the ball on my ball winder as I am knitting from both ends to double the yarn....and I have a tangled mess so it is a slow go but almost finished the cuff and will start on the cat yarn and will go rewind the ball before I start the other sock!!
Everyone is posting the birds at their feeders but for some reason we are not getting many birds, maybe because we have farms around us and everyone is hauling their grain to market lately so there is plenty of spilled grain around the bins. But what I did get a picture of is our resident fox in the front yard! usually he is in the llama/alpaca field catching mice, we see where he gets under the fence but here he is in the yard and my old seventeen old barn cats are out sunning themselves by the garage....do foxes eat cats?? Not taking any chances so all I had to do was open the door and he left the yard. He has a beautiful tail!

Here is the process on my Calico Cat socks! A lot of things I should have done differently with these socks...like should have searched around and found my trusty sock pattern that I usually use, Even though I used the size needles this pattern asked for and actually knit a swatch they are a little wide in the foot...but only a little....I think when I wash and block them they will be o.k. I did change the size of the needles for the cuff of the sock as I wanted it tighter but should have used that size for the foot too.The yarn is an eight ply....eight ply! how can they spin such a fine strand? eight ply....do not think I like knitting with the eight ply...have found a couple of spots in my knitting where one strand on a stitch did not get picked up...but they are my socks so do not really care but if I was knitting them to sell I would have gone back and reknit the stitch. Crazy pattern of colors when knit up, could make a person dizzy when knitting but you could make mistakes and never notice it. So almost finished the other sock. Going to knit a few more pair of socks while I am on a sock roll but will dig out my regular pattern. But really what I should do is find some unfinished projects to finish up....right...
The sun was shining yesterday and thought I would take my camera and take some pictures outside....but nothing and no one wanted their pictures taken....the llamas and alpacas were out in the field enjoying the nice weather munching here and there and would not even lift their heads up to look at me....they have been hiding out in the barns with the cold weather we had so were enjoying the warm sunny day.

After having such cold snowy weather the winds came in and temps came up and a lot of our snow has disappeared, have been getting fog at night and this is what we wake up to in the morning....frosty sparkly trees!!. Now today we have clear sky and the temp is warmer. In the cold weather we could not open the back door...the locks were frozen...the door is on the north side of the house, one year I had all the doors freeze up and could not get out of the house...too scary! For some reason this year it is only the back door, now we need a storm door. RH searched around and found a storm door that was not mostly glass that would fit, brought it home but had to wait until warmer weather to install it. With the warmer weather we have it installed so hopefully when...(if) we get really cold weather the door will not freeze up. So we put the storm door in.....bought a small electric snow blower to remove the snow from the decks....got a block heater installed on the car.....now we are prepared... we will not get any more freezing weather this year....
Have not been knitting since before Christmas but finally brought my needles out and a skein of yarn my daughter gave me last Christmas, it is an Ancient Arts yarn 80% superwash merino/20% nylon....I call it my cat yarn, the color is taking from a cat picture and named Calico Cat. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this yarn are donated by Ancient Arts to charities benefiting stray and abandoned cats. Decided I would knit myself some socks! So here it is...interesting how the colors are knitting up.

It has taken me a while but hopefully I am back to blogging!!! Here is the picture of the rose grey yarn plied into skeins, still have not decided what I want to knit out of it. I was almost to the point the other day of going out in the yard digging a deep hole and putting all the computers and associated items in it and trying to get my sanity back!!We had the session with our internet provider and thought finally we would be on track.......but no....our router crapped out! Now this house was a ready built and we moved to this place and they had all the wiring for what ever run up into the back closet which has no light in it so we were always moving the clothes handling a flashlight etc etc when we had a problem, I have been asking ever since we moved into the house if we could just add on some extra cord and move the router out onto a cabinet right beside the closet.....the other person that lives here said it could not be done...asked older son....and he said you would need an electrical outlet near...I said there is one. So now it has been a few more years and we need a new router. So the other person that lives here went to buy a new router and comes home with the router....and wire and electrical box and a box to run the wire for the connection for the router and he has this great idea that he can move the router out to the cabinet. So it took him a day to that all done and then it came time to get all the computers..e reader...ipad and my iphone...printer..all to recognize the new router and we would be back in business. Should have waited until the next day when the other person that lives here was away....but no we would hook things up now starting with his computer (and his help)he pushes buttons without thinking etc.etc. Finally I left him to do his own thing and I got my computer up and running, got my ipad up and running and got my iphone up and running and got his ereader up and running and told him to just back away and let his computer have a rest. My brain has never been so tired. The next day he had to be off to town so I calmly sat down to his computer and got it running with the router. When the other person that lives here has computer problems I tell him to pack up his computer and take it to his Grandson. I sent a message to said Grandson......Brendan...this is your Grandmother speaking...I am giving you your Grandfather for all his computer needs....
Now with a new router...all the setting have been changed on all the computers etc and some programs are not working as they should so it is a headache finding what has changed so it can be changed back. My computer would not recognize my cameras or my iphone so could not download pictures....then I managed to download them and now can not do anything with the pictures. So while the other person who lives here is not home....I am using his computer because it will let me move pictures into my blog....do not tell him I am using his computer...because if he has a problem...it will be my fault.
The picture of the tomatoes is the last of the tomatoes from the greenhouse, greenhouse has been shut down for the winter and I have got them all made up into sauce and in the freezer. They were so yummy all summer but I was glad to see the end of them finally. But now will start grumbling about having to eat store bought tomatoes.....Crazy Lady with purple fingershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13638003936298753440noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818484467525397095.post-64334618659469568792016-09-04T23:03:00.000-07:002016-09-04T23:03:26.748-07:00Spinning and Knitting!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUKfsiWL9UVkBHE6GYT1ak8v2U9JPH9gbb3UJwjM_0O8P5Iq-KOxZuKmU41923xcHfVy4mMIaR0s_oiJLDr_YY7Auqa2y0uDE5UmHRfYyxBtrUGbRWvDMcs5FeEOI6kswS1In2LTGU_mQ/s1600/IMG_0589.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUKfsiWL9UVkBHE6GYT1ak8v2U9JPH9gbb3UJwjM_0O8P5Iq-KOxZuKmU41923xcHfVy4mMIaR0s_oiJLDr_YY7Auqa2y0uDE5UmHRfYyxBtrUGbRWvDMcs5FeEOI6kswS1In2LTGU_mQ/s320/IMG_0589.JPG" width="320" height="320" /></a></div>
It has been a while since I have spun on my spinning wheel because of back and hip problems but had processed a rose/grey alpaca fleece and had bags of roving on sale on our market table but no one interested in grey, love the rose grey and it is hard to find, I had bought it off a friend...wish I had the animal, decided I would try to spin it myself and would limit myself to only spinning for about thirty minutes at a time. So that is what I have done and it is working out. I thought I would spin a 100grm skein for display but love!! spinning this fleece and have gotten carried away and it will be a 200grm skein, it is so soft and spinning so easy. So far I have one bobbin full and am working on another one.

Have been knitting wrist warmers for the market table but after the last few colder days RH said last Sat. guys were looking at wrist warmers for themselves, so better go have a look at my yarn stash and find something that would work for guys, it has to be sturdier than what I have been using.

Another new llama girl on the farm, the auction mart phoned a couple of weeks ago and said they had a young female llama so RH went down and got her, she has been someones pet as she is very friendly but she was covered with those horrid large burrs...my fingers hurt just thinking about it....have had them in a alpaca fleece we bought. Her face, chest and down her legs were a matted mess, I was so worried they were right to her skin, you could not even pet her without getting stuck with pokes. RH got her into the stock trailer and got her trimmed up, she had never been sheared but she just stood there and the electric trimmer did not even bother her. The burrs were not to her skin thank goodness so he could leave some fibre on her so she should be o.k. if we have a cold winter. She fit right into the herd no problem. Was going to take a better picture of her but she looks pretty scruffy right now. The other thing RH did not tell me until later.....when he went to pick her up......she was in a big pen with a male llama......but he said there is no way he could have bred her as he had fibre to the ground.......famous last words.....marked the date on the calendar so we can keep an eye on her....could be a new addition next year.

Finally Tomatoes on the plants in the greenhouse, had bought a couple of larger plants to put in the greenhouse as I had so much trouble with the seeds sprouting last spring so had early tomatoes but do not think they were tomato plants to put in the greenhouse as when the tomatoes ripened they split open but they were yummy any way. After all my trouble getting seeds to sprout all these tomato seeds that were on the ground from last years tomatoes sprouted so had tomato plants all over the place, was so hard to pull them out so plants were not so crowded, did keep a couple and they are as large as the ones I had started. One plant produced a long string of blooms....if they all ripen I will have 26 small tomatoes off the one stem.

Hello to the new girl on the farm! We have to stop calling her the new girl and give her a name. People we got her from said she did not have a name......poor thing. A couple of weeks ago we got a phone call, people were looking for someone to come and get a llama, she had been a guard for some sheep and goats and they were gone and the place was up for sale. RH went over to see her and talk to the people and to see what was there to get her in to confine her so he could catch her, she was not wild but very leary of strangers and confused as all her friends were no longer there. We decided the best way to go about things were to bring some grain over and slowly get her into a corral area that was there. RH went over a couple times a day to put a bit of grain in a dish for her, she would wait until he was driving away then she would eat the grain, after few days she finally went in to the corral after he put the grain in the dish and he closed the gate....and she promptly jumped over the corral...ok back to thinking of another plan..the corral was not that high and llamas can really jump if they want to. The next plan was to take over some of our higher panels and make the corral higher so RH took the stock trailer and some panels over. The next week he would go over when he could and try to entice her in with a bit of grain and there was no way she would go in until he left.RH brought the stock trailer home, then we had rainy weather for a few days and he did not get over, then went back and the same thing...no way could he get her in so finally phoned the people and said he was going to have to leave it and if they could get her in to call us and he would go over and get her, he said he would take a small pail of grain over and leave it for them to use and they said o.k. they would work at it. So off he went to deliver the grain....now she had not had her treat for a few days because of the rain and when he put some in her dish....she went into the corral he made with the panels but before he could close the gate she got out, so he started to walk away.....and she went back in...and he got the gate shut. Now this has to be a miracle I tell you!! RH phoned all excited and said he had her and was on the way home to get the truck and trailer, he came home and got the stock trailer, said his friend was puttering down by his garage so he was going to stop and see if he would go along with him in case he needed help loading her. RH said he backed the trailer up and was getting things secured and his friend said....she is going to jump in the trailer by herself...and that is what she did! And here she is! We kept her separate from the others so they could get used to her being here and after a couple of days she was let out with the rest. It took a few days of settling the pecking order, our older female llama was more then miffed and would not let the new llama into the barn where we have a large fan going where they go in and cool off, but after a couple of days everything was fine and she is one of the herd! She is a nice calm girl and I think she is happy to have llama friends....now a name for her...Crazy Lady with purple fingershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13638003936298753440noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818484467525397095.post-8234644666301456042016-08-07T10:01:00.000-07:002016-08-07T10:01:49.282-07:00Retirement.....<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlM-7h6-HvBTr1CwAkbUhbT7KE9yFaVWm4oDCYE_cnYWXH2k7CsUj2CjAfcTg0IUNFzSVTUICefx8R-6bkB_5zK-xB3otg5h9dy49ULqJ3_Jy5L1mPbeSCb2-qUy9A217oRKSMm_qzclI/s1600/IMG_0529.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlM-7h6-HvBTr1CwAkbUhbT7KE9yFaVWm4oDCYE_cnYWXH2k7CsUj2CjAfcTg0IUNFzSVTUICefx8R-6bkB_5zK-xB3otg5h9dy49ULqJ3_Jy5L1mPbeSCb2-qUy9A217oRKSMm_qzclI/s320/IMG_0529.JPG" width="240" height="320" /></a>
I had an email from a friend the other day and she was wanting to know what retirement was as she was supposed to be retired and she was so busy she could not find time to do the things she wanted to do. I was coming back from the garden and this was what I found on the back step. I sent her this picture and titled it " This is retirement" These are our barn cats that are in retirement from being barn cats....they are now in the garage sleeping on fluffy pillows and if it is warm and the sun is out they meander over to the back deck and snooze in the sun. They are over sixteen years old so they have earned it.Crazy Lady with purple fingershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13638003936298753440noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818484467525397095.post-78312321250419827832016-08-06T09:44:00.000-07:002016-08-06T09:44:41.769-07:00Misplaced Knitting!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga-dx5mB5S_1vIorXPFjtpdoD-l3RM6z0UPKOTUbby7D8AV3qC3z5-JZlu6S_NWT_CJ9y8donwLhXjj9DMus91e_GJtCr8xkVmclJK004_F9r1oSrsNO2VH7P5Qrz7sPzby834tZ_h5jU/s1600/IMG_0528.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga-dx5mB5S_1vIorXPFjtpdoD-l3RM6z0UPKOTUbby7D8AV3qC3z5-JZlu6S_NWT_CJ9y8donwLhXjj9DMus91e_GJtCr8xkVmclJK004_F9r1oSrsNO2VH7P5Qrz7sPzby834tZ_h5jU/s320/IMG_0528.JPG" width="240" height="320" /></a></div>
This is a test blog to see if It will post, I have been trying to post a blog for ages and they end up in outer space some where!! The internet provider we had was taken over by another company and it has been ages since I have been able to download pictures from my cameras and iphone. The new provider came out a few days ago and put up a new dish for us and I have my pictures downloaded!! So here we go!!!
I do not know how long it has been since I started this scarf, can not find the picture where I blogged about swatches to decide whether I wanted to knit this pattern in the multicolored yarn or a yarn of one color. I decided to go with the multicolored yarn and am glad I did, love the way the yarn is knitting up. The pattern is just one row repeated and can not remember where I found the pattern, I thought wow...only one row to remember...this should be easy.....well it was not that easy, for some reason just could not remember the stitches so was hard to knit on it when there were distractions around so it was always tucked away to knit on something else. Just found it again and decided I have to get it finished and surprise....not having a problem remembering the pattern so have been knitting away. Now the decision....is it long enough or should I just knit until the end of the yarn? I think...it has been so long....that I got the yarn from Knit Picks..O.K. just remembered I might have another skein of the yarn tucked away, just went to check and it is Knit Picks and it is a sock yarn alpaca/merino/nylon.I am going to hit post...and see where this goes.....if you are reading it...ya! It is working!

Everything is Blooming Poppies are blooming, everything is so early this year! It is so hot out that the flowers just last a day so have to be out early in the morning to enjoy them and get a quick picture. Love them so much wish they would stay around longer! For my birthday I got a bird bath! I looked all last year and looked this spring but nothing caught my eye. I needed some thing that was heavy enough so the winds we get would not topple it over and a lot were two piece and I was afraid that Mango the young cat who adopted us would not jump up and dump the top off. Then when I was about to give up........here it was!! The perfect bird bath! They only had one! I said to RH hurry in and get someone to wait on us and I am standing guard over this bird bath! No one came to fight me over it before it was paid for and placed in the car. It is solid concrete so it will not blow down or be toppled by an energetic happy cat.<br />
I ( think....think....am whispering this..) think I have discovered how to move my pictures into blogger. I have been so frustrated for so long....here is hoping. All we have been doing is clearing out the gardens of weeds and more weeds! with the mild winter we had I am sure every weed seed grew!! Now it is so hot.....31C today all I do is water...and then water, getting up early in the morning to do anything in the garden. And everything is starting to bloom and bloom and bloom!!!<br />

I will not get into what it has taken me to figure out how to get an imagine inserted into this blog......this time I have written down the detailed instructions. Now to remember where I left off on my knitting! O.K. swatches worked and I had one front knit and it matched the measurements, so on to the other front matching up patterns, so far so good and on to the back making sure the patterns were matching up to the front. Then it was on to the sleeves, she wanted the cuffs long enough to roll down to cover her hands if she wanted. Now this is where I got into trouble with some of the yarn being thicker in some places and thinner than others when I was knitting the raglan portion of the sleeve and the being creative in adding and subtracting rows and stitches, but finally got them the same size and it was at this time my allergy's kicked in......eyes and nose running...throat bothering me....and me starting to feel a little crazy and antihistamines not doing much good.......what am I to do?? I have to finish it. So on to the collar and I thought that should be simple...no pattern....just plain knitting....well.....it was not simple...shaping...shaping...every row was different. Finally had all the pieces knit...and I had to just tuck it away for a while and have a time out.<br />
Finally I had to bring it back out and get at it, I could not use the yarn I knit with to sew it up as I could not pull the yarn through the knit pieces so went through my stash and found a cone of llama yarn, mill spun, that was close to the color and blended in nicely. But first I had to knit a row of knitting down both fronts to sew the zipper in, if the pattern had been knit in the same yarn as the main body of the sweater I would not have need to do that but the yarn we used for the patterns was softer and would not hold up with the opening and closing of the zipper. So using the dog hair yarn and a crochet hook I pulled stitches through putting them on a knitting needle, I knit one row, then cast off the stitches leaving a strong area to sew the zipper in. Then off to sew all the pieces together...which took a couple of days, stitching the zipper in by hand......what can I say......it is better off if I do not say anything except I got it done. O.K.......sweater is sewn together....now it needs to be lined because the yarn is 100 percent dog hair which as no memory like wool does.....it will really stretch out of shape. I just happened to have some fabric....yes...in my stash ( I have a stash of everything) I had made paper patterns of all the knit pieces before I had sewn the sweater up. I cut the lining pieces out of a scrap fabric so she could try it on for size, did some alternations to the pattern and made up the lining. Then the job of sewing the lining into the sweater....by hand.<br />

You would not believe how much time! Loss of brain cells it has taken to get these two pictures into the blog. But I did find some thing new out......This is supposed to be the new improved Blogger?? But by all the complaints I have come across from people....there are no happy people! And to top that off....they want you to import your pictures from Picasa.......which I also learned....is in the process of shutting down...as they want you to use Google's photo save whatever...which I subscribed to...and now will not let me in...have to go in and find out what people are saying about that!!
Anyway I have managed to download two photos, where they are going to be on the page who knows! And how I managed that I really do not know, can I do it again? Do not know!! I tried to download the original picture she gave me of what she wanted but could not get it to download...will try to figure that one out another day. I have the picture of my starting swatch to see if the yarn we were going to put with the handspun dog yarn was going to work and it looked like it would work. Now the job was getting patterns for the sweater charted! She is so small that the patterns I had or could find online did not go that small so finally found a site where I could download blank sweater charts and they had a small size. There were going to be patterns that had to match up on back and fronts and sleeves, remembering that the handspun was thick and thin and thank-goodness after being knit it formed a halo looking like fur so you could not see the rows and stitches clearly because in order to match the patterns there was some creative increases and decreases being made. The yarn shed so much in being knit that I was covered and everything in the house was covered with dog hair. I have so many allergies but so far was doing o.k. and to my amazement what I had charted and knit was coming out to the right size. I was repeating to myself....I am never touching dog hair again unless it is on a live dog!!
The next saga in the making of the Dog Yarn Sweater will be continued when I can recharge my brain cells and get more pictures downloaded!Crazy Lady with purple fingershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13638003936298753440noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818484467525397095.post-1806705761060777162016-05-18T12:03:00.000-07:002016-05-18T12:03:10.749-07:00Troubles! Troubles1Well I was speaking too soon when I said I could post pictures now........many brain cells have been lost....something is going on with blogger and I can not pin it down...except it has not been working and as if that wasn't enough....our internet has been getting slower.... and slower... until we could not open anything. They would not talk to me because my name is not on the contract.....it is only RH that they will listen to and he will not get his butt in gear and call them....until he could not download book to his reader from the library plus I was getting threatening....if only I thought of hiding his reader until he called them (have to remember that for next time) Well he finally called them and found out our internet provider had been taken over by another company which we did not realize, the original provider still had our old address and our e-mail address although it has stayed the same...they had not written it down properly. As we had not paid for our service for two months they had not totally shut us down they put us on the back burner so while still connected we could not download anything. So RH said he paid them and it would be working in a few minutes and they had emailed us so we could get our password etc etc sorted out and off he went to do whatever and he would not be home until late. The e-mail came up...but I could not open it because they had not fixed the problem....I finally called them...and they would not talk to me...of course....but I did say plenty...and RH could not call them from his cell phone....he had to call them from the house phone. They said he could call them when he got home as they are open 24 hours. So finally RH came home and called them (I said make sure my name is also on the contract too!!!!) So he is on the phone and I have to operate the computer....with my sanity hanging on by a string.....while the guy that controls our internet...can not get that we can not open up the emails he is sending. Finally it got through and I got the password whatever straightened out, but internet was not better. Finally the next morning it was working...while not great...I could download emails and open some sites. You do not realize how you depend on your computer working because you do all your banking and paying bills online these days. When you live out of town you have no choice of internet companies...you have to take what is there. So that is my rant!! Now to get blogger working or find another site to host my blog!! So away I go and hope to get another blog post written...and be able to post pictures...here goes....Crazy Lady with purple fingershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13638003936298753440noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818484467525397095.post-55442967940728897432016-05-18T11:32:00.000-07:002016-05-18T11:32:38.821-07:00THE DOG YARN SWEATER!!!!!Here goes my latest...shall we say putting it mildly...adventure.....Daughter M.J. mentioned she was spinning dog hair for a young lady who had saved her dogs hair when she brushed her and her dog had passed away and she wanted the hair spun into yarn and she was looking for someone to knit it into a sweater.....I said do not look at me. A few months later daughter said the dog owner came to get the yarn and said she had picked up a business card from a table at the farmers market......it was my card.....RH has a market table at the local markets selling our llama and alpaca products, I have yarn and a few knit items on the table. Daughter said the lady would be calling me and she hoped I would knit the sweater for her as daughter had asked everyone in the guild and no one would knit the sweater. The lady with the dog hair yarn called me and brought the yarn over....and a picture of the sweater she wanted knit....no pattern...just a picture of a cowichan sweater...it had six different patterns in it.....I said you only have one color of yarn here...she said she wanted the pattern in the sweater to be turquoise...we would have to find some other yarn....It was just before Christmas so I said I can not even think about this until after Christmas, I had other items on order to knit plus getting ready for Christmas.I had spun a bit of dog hair into yarn for my niece at one time and I had carded the dog hair with some merino and alpaca fibre before I spun it, daughter had not carded the dog hair or mixed it with anything she just took clumps of dog hair out of the bag and spun it onto a stand of wool yarn....I think it was wool, it was thick and thin. The dog hair had been put through a rinse with a fabric softener....with a strong perfume smell....I have so many allergies and even having the yarn in the house was bothering me so I had to wash the yarn, phoned daughter and asked how she had washed the yarn as I had to wash the yarn to get rid of the smell of the softener, daughter said she had not washed the yarn after she spun it she just steamed it....O.K....I washed one skein...hoping it would not fall apart...it did not fall apart (thank-goodness) it actually felted it a bit which was a good thing, so washed the rest of the yarn and tucked it away. Now it is January and I have to deal with this sweater knitting. I charted two of the patterns from looking at the picture of the sweater, mentioned to dog yarn owner who is very small that I thought she would only want two patterns on the sweater as there was no room to put that many patterns on the sweater. I knit a swatch to get an idea on how many stitches per inch I would get so we match up some yarn as we needed a color for the pattern and a background color for the pattern and there was no way I could find the color turquoise in any yarn so sent Dog owner to look in a yarn store to see what color she wanted plus gave her the info on stitches per inch we needed, via pictures on iPhones we decided the colors to add to the dog yarn. So the swatching of patterns begin. We have three cats outside that are 15 years or older and they are putting up with him (barely) he wants them to play with him so he come up to them and jumps at them...play with me....they just give him a swat....do we have to get another younger cat for a play mate for him?? Now that I can post pictures on the blog......I will show you what I have been doing on the knitting front.....I think I need to be committed....why did I get roped into doing this ??? Stay tuned!

Last summer with no rain and watering steady I lived outside so blogging went by the wayside....like how many pictures do people need to see of a growing tomato....right. But can not wait until my flowerbeds start coming this spring.
Last year was a sad year as we had to say goodbye to all three of our fur babies in the house, they had been with us for over fifteen years through two moves, living in holiday trailers etc while houses and barns were being built.First was Maxx the Jack Russel in the spring, then Sheba in the summer and finally Grey kitty in the fall and they are so missed. We decided to try to live without animals in the house for a bit. We still have three barn cats who are over fifteen years old and have moved with us too, we do not call them barn cats now...they are garage cats who live in a warm garage with a cat door, they move slower and spend their time soaking up the sun when there is sun. We have a younger cat Batman we inherited when we bought this place who had been terrorized by the two house cats and being the gentle sole he is he would not retaliate.....he would just quietly leave. Then we were adopted....by a cat....RH was out working on the garage and all of a sudden he came in the door and said look what I have....he was holding a small orange kitten....RH said he was up on the ladder and all of a sudden here was this little cat up on the step ladder with him. Where did he come from....we do not have really close neighbours. RH went around to the closest neighbours asking if they were missing a cat...no one was missing a cat but the neighbours to the south of us said they would take him, our older garage cats were not happy to have him around. So RH took him over to the neighbours. But I could not quit thinking about him....I said to RH...maybe you should go bring him back.....I do not know if he is being taken care of....RH said they said they lose a lot of cats to coyotes....I said go get him!! He didn't and the next night I did hear coyotes...and could not stop thinking about the little cat. The next morning RH came into the house and said look who has come back....he was holding the little cat and little cat showed me his sore paw as he had walked all the way back to us. I said he is going to stay here....little cat said...you realize I was a house cat....I said hmmm....do not think that is going to happen....take the warm garage and I will make you a nice warm bed. So off to the vets, getting neutered...shots etc....now he is called the million dollar cat. RH came into the house the other day and said I need some toys for that cat as he is taking all my stuff off the shelf to play with...so found him some toys. We were calling him Little Cat but now that he has grown a bit his name is Mango. He is the happiest cat, he loves the snow, found him gathering snow in his paws then standing up on his back legs and tossing a snow ball, then it was snowing and he was trying to catch the snowflakes. The older cats have decided he can stay and they will put up with him, he is Batman's shadow, he has so much energy and occasionally gets a swat from Batman. I am already worrying about my flower planters come spring and my flowerbeds......
I wanted to add a photo of Mango but for some reason between my computer and blogger this is not happening!!
will add some photos when I get things working again....I am not happy...trying to not say bad words!!

I can not believe it has been that long since I last posted. May 20th was the last post!....the tomato plants were still in their little cups under the grow lights....where has the time gone......look at them now!!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1Jy5XNNiILDbomk3IitvToZ-HfaJXkl9NlYLcG_wvfKklHSI5yovpqKJ8gPzqKSoFH0n0r6YEsb7Knxd474kbZib0enBmS_5En6duu1D4gjxMQEyRCPscqScdbZG1B3gDonV3UrlReI0/s1600/IMG_0226.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1Jy5XNNiILDbomk3IitvToZ-HfaJXkl9NlYLcG_wvfKklHSI5yovpqKJ8gPzqKSoFH0n0r6YEsb7Knxd474kbZib0enBmS_5En6duu1D4gjxMQEyRCPscqScdbZG1B3gDonV3UrlReI0/s320/IMG_0226.JPG" /></a></div>
This is just one side of the greenhouse.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8PWKAHcRStYtXf1PUdvT5UNiWe6Dpu15klmECSeJeOASWbhLjXI9eWSlN_aemK-HsQVgr7TTwnFTzuwQtTkmxs4diQidKN74dNvX4XL0mqfSqMjlgtAAGvTKcSq1Zr8avYZBxEXMm8jY/s1600/IMG_0228.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8PWKAHcRStYtXf1PUdvT5UNiWe6Dpu15klmECSeJeOASWbhLjXI9eWSlN_aemK-HsQVgr7TTwnFTzuwQtTkmxs4diQidKN74dNvX4XL0mqfSqMjlgtAAGvTKcSq1Zr8avYZBxEXMm8jY/s320/IMG_0228.JPG" /></a></div>
And the tomatoes are starting to appear!! I still had some tomatoes in the deepfreeze frozen from last year so got the big pot out yesterday as we had a rain day and put the tomatoes, peppers, celery and onions in and stewed them down then run them through the blender added some spices and simmered for a bit and put the sauce into containers and froze for later. Think I have enough tomatoes frozen for another pot. Can not wait for the new tomatoes to ripen...there is nothing like picking and eating vine ripened tomatoes!
We have had it so hot for so long and no rain so it is a daily chore to keep all the garden's watered. We can not use our well water because of high sodium, so we have three big tanks to catch rain water....well no rain...means no water..we are lucky enough that the town near us has a good water well we can get water from to use, we put a small tank on the truck and hubby hauls water to fill the tanks. Since we moved here I had to rely on gravity feed to get the water to the gardens then water everything with a watering can...well this year hubby asked what I wanted for my birthday...I said I need a water system for watering the gardens...I went online and found the pump I wanted then found a store that had one and sent him on his way. So now we have all three tanks hooked up together and hose to the front and back gardens and all I have to do it flip a couple of switches and I have pressured water to water things, what a treat! It was still a chore to pull hoses around with all the hot weather but I could not have had the garden this year if I had not had the water system.

Almost crazy dealing with our weather....look at my poor tomato plants! They have out grown the lights but it has been so cold, have been moving them out during the day this week...last week was cold and drizzly....have to put them in my patio greenhouse as the winds keep blowing....should be thinking of getting them planted in the greenhouse but every night is a chance of frost as temperatures are near zero every night.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6wiDE_wWy_SXJD1WUW_pj-iVtInFwg3b1tNKzb5mDnuvYyOwXSCMX-Kj-Zzi8J8vNhqRJx02_xgTBG4D6Gcn9UMk032yYnSzVInYYFpHJClkRQRANifaHE67DPw991DVTjVbdeWVOrLE/s1600/IMG_0120.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6wiDE_wWy_SXJD1WUW_pj-iVtInFwg3b1tNKzb5mDnuvYyOwXSCMX-Kj-Zzi8J8vNhqRJx02_xgTBG4D6Gcn9UMk032yYnSzVInYYFpHJClkRQRANifaHE67DPw991DVTjVbdeWVOrLE/s320/IMG_0120.JPG" /></a></div>
And here are the peppers...they need heat to grow...and it has been too cold! Are we ever going to get warm enough weather to get things growing! too stressful. of course there are things growing...weeds are growing!! So that is what is going on, weeding the flowerbeds. My poor lilies, what a job finding them in the grass and other weeds, took ages and an aching back but have finally got them cleaned out. We usually do not have such a weed problem in the flowerbeds but last year we did not put enough bark mulch down so weed seeds blew in. Today RH spent the day hauling in bark mulch and putting it around the plants now we have the weeds cleaned out. Now to get the garden planted....thought I would get most of it planted today as beds are worked and ready...no could do...had wild wind all day...can not plant seeds when the wind blows like that. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day!!
Then of course computer problems....I left my laptop open on the dining room table....one of the cats must have walked on the keys and the powers that be thought someone was hacking the computer...so they shut it down for hours. Note to self...always close the computer up when leaving it!!! Then our printer died so RH bought a new one when he went to town and I got it hooked up to the lap top he uses and the old computer and was so relieved when everything was working and we could print things again.....then the next day...could not get into the laptop...RH could not get into his iPad and he could not read his book...so the world was coming to an end at our house!! Funny thing was when he said what book he was reading...I said just a minute...I think I have that book on the book shelf (now can you imagine that ever happening??) there it was so gave it to him and he found his place where he was reading and his world was o.k. for a bit, then off I was trying to figure out what was going on, thank-goodness I had not hooked my Mac laptop up to the new printer....I thought the hooking the printer up had caused the problems...passwords were not working. Could not get anything to work except my iPad and my computer. Did not want to send an S.O.S. to grandson as it was Sunday, so Monday morning I sent him a help! help! your poor Grandmother message and he came back not really knowing what the problem was so off I went at my day trying to think of things it could be....then I thought of the caps lock key...maybe it was on...but no it wasn't on.... I punched it on and off a few times...and here the screen came up and it took my password, then I went online...and I could get on the library website...maybe it wasn't the printer that was the problem...it might have been our internet provider having problems!! Now how many brain cells did I burn off trying to get things working. Could not get RH's iPad working but it is an old iPad and he does not need an iPad as all he does is read ebooks on it and I have wiped it off and re programed it for him I do not know how many times, so told him it was toast and we would get him a reader for his books...and that is my story and I am sticking to it...do not want to deal with it anymore!
Did get a few more fingerless mitts knit, spun another bobbin of the alpaca/wool/silk so I can get that plied up tomorrow. And I started knitting a pair of heavy slipper socks, almost have one finished and knit a few more rows on the multicoloured scarf and trying hard to keep my sanity!!
Now a happy note....some more of my rockery plants are blooming and here are is of my favourites!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioJYWhodrgfDPYNCcFHE-BHEdjP127fKqyZyi6-6Nkzj1b-HVSoAAkKqIjC7MPpVK6rBaexe2EpTgYaVeOm0co_F5Lp_KgqctP6i8H8wocEpFnXMe0lSj__Xc7c4pgZUNLmS2CyilYVDA/s1600/IMG_0124.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioJYWhodrgfDPYNCcFHE-BHEdjP127fKqyZyi6-6Nkzj1b-HVSoAAkKqIjC7MPpVK6rBaexe2EpTgYaVeOm0co_F5Lp_KgqctP6i8H8wocEpFnXMe0lSj__Xc7c4pgZUNLmS2CyilYVDA/s320/IMG_0124.JPG" /></a></div>
And here is another exciting thing!! My yellow Begonia survived over the winter and here she is growing!!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMelrWlHcRfMOMHXmiAYhrs_dBBOxc9Huj7rDqjevegZBx8_Pet7VNllthHWlfjqLg7f4Aq4lUB9uvPIfuSscPn1087ZF3g-XRJRDnXpCSzEqnartDAiouOYjjMQ_usakD5RIifG5kYxE/s1600/IMG_0122.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMelrWlHcRfMOMHXmiAYhrs_dBBOxc9Huj7rDqjevegZBx8_Pet7VNllthHWlfjqLg7f4Aq4lUB9uvPIfuSscPn1087ZF3g-XRJRDnXpCSzEqnartDAiouOYjjMQ_usakD5RIifG5kYxE/s320/IMG_0122.JPG" /></a></div>
Every spring I wait hoping she survived...and here she is for another year! Tomorrow is another day...and hopefully it will be warm with no wind....if anyone needs me....I will be in my padded room...trying to grow more brain cells.....Crazy Lady with purple fingershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13638003936298753440noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818484467525397095.post-28465734180354880862015-05-08T21:53:00.002-07:002015-05-08T21:53:19.218-07:00Computer is finally Co-operating and Plant Drama Rules my Days! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifp1-0VCE7fwaC9Y2DRZE8SUHC4ipdYGcDPn9CR0Szy_YYSgQVPS9eSzWUpe6sehvwnm7WQVlda2OnGIoo5667TKi0OV-48j1ZI1R3utXHTsAC-e6GZbRQNiXHnc2Cp92yjZyZ8aAIJjY/s1600/IMG_0113.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifp1-0VCE7fwaC9Y2DRZE8SUHC4ipdYGcDPn9CR0Szy_YYSgQVPS9eSzWUpe6sehvwnm7WQVlda2OnGIoo5667TKi0OV-48j1ZI1R3utXHTsAC-e6GZbRQNiXHnc2Cp92yjZyZ8aAIJjY/s320/IMG_0113.JPG" /></a></div>
I can not believe I can add a photo and actually write a blog entree!! The powers that be decided to upgrade everything on my computer and I could not get anything to work properly for days and thought I would give it another try and here we are. Last post I decided I would try to pull out a pailful of weeds from my flowers gardens a day......well there are so many weeds coming up I graduated to the wheel barrow pretty fast....too many trips to the compost pile using a pail. Had a day off from cleaning up around my plants today as we had a good rain last night, actually at six this morning there was a bit of snow on the ground but it disappeared pretty fast. it was getting so cold last night we turned the heater in the greenhouse on high and with a small fan going with the heater plus I find open pails of water sitting around keep things from freezing and everything survived, all my little plants are still in the shed with their little heater so they have been safe....from the cold but not from a mouse....six pepper plants got munched!! I was just thinking after having most of the pepper plants munched last year I better get the clear plastic cups on them...well now have them on the plants...if it isn't one thing it is another! I have one of those small greenhouse shelf things and thought the other day I would set it up out beside the shed on the east side where the wind usually does not bother things....by the time I dug out all the pieces and fooled around trying to remember how it went together...finally got it all set up and got it outside...was just going to put a few of the tomato plants in it and the wind hit..so decided it was not a good idea, had a pail with some soil in it so put that in the bottom of the little greenhouse thinking it would keep it from moving in the wind and it stayed good until the next day when the wind came from the other direction and over it went....did not do any damage so struggled with it and got it back in the shed. What would I do with myself if I did not have all this drama with my plant children. No more spinning done but knit a couple pair of fingerless mitts while being a cat pillow...have to save some time out of my day to spend time with these old cats, they drive me crazy but then I remember they are fifteen years old and one day they will not be here and I will miss them...RH says he is sure they are going to outlive us...Had not sewn anything for ages but younger son's fiancée had a bag she bought when they were on holidays and wanted me to put a lining in it, so after getting sewing machine oiled up and gathering up thread, scissors etc. I managed to get that project finished this afternoon so that is another thing off the list. Do not know where the days go...first it is Monday...then here is Friday. But this weekend it is Mothers Day...off to the plant stores!! But wait...is it going to be warm enough to get plants...that I might have to baby if the weather does not warm up.....tomorrow is another day...hopefully without snow...... I decided to keep knitting with the multicoloured yarn for a few more rows and see if I liked it any better and actually I think it is going to be o.k. now to find the time to knit some more on it. I seem to be running in circles doing a bit of this and a bit of that and not getting anything finished.

This evening I spun some more of the alpaca/merino/silk I had carded up and am going to say this bobbin has enough on it and hopefully tomorrow I will get a start on another bobbin. If I could just find more time in my day for spinning!

The tulips are finally blooming! They are usually the first thing to bloom but for some reason they were later than a lot of the rockery plants which have started blooming a couple of weeks ago...but you have to forgive them for being late because they are so beautiful. And of course with the flowers starting to bloom there are all the pesky weeds coming up too. I have to make a list to try to get things done....first on the list.....dig out a pailful of weeds every morning......spin for a couple hours every evening.....and the list goes on... We can not use our well water for watering plants because of the high sodium so have three large tanks we catch rain water in plus we have a tank for the back of the truck that we can go get water from a well to fill our tanks when there is no rain...which as it has been so dry here the tanks are not filling. I had a birthday a few days ago and RH asked what I wanted for my birthday and I said I want to get a pump system going so we can have water pressure in hoses to water the gardens because I just can not water everything with a watering can again this year. So I went on the net and found the pump I wanted and found a store that had one for sale and off he went to get it!! So we have been working to get the pumping system working all week and what a treat to just go around with the hose and water everything! We are going to also put a system in so we can water all the raised beds down at the garden by just flipping the switch on the pump! The raised beds are almost ready to plant, just a few more to work up and the planting begins. My pepper and tomato plants under the lights are doing so well, have moved a few of the plants I kept over the winter out to the greenhouse with a small heater for night time just incase the temps drop. Will get them planted into planters just in time for the tomato plants to be planted in the greenhouse. I better get the tomatoes I froze from last year made into sauce before the new ones arrive. So between the outside work and trying to do some spinning and knitting I am running in circles. Add in some computer problems the last week I wonder if I am still sane. But tomorrow is a new day! A day with a water system! I am so thankful!!Crazy Lady with purple fingershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13638003936298753440noreply@blogger.com0
